A well-known and highly regarded worldwide experiential agency in central London are looking for a Project Director to join their team on a temp-to-perm basis. Working across multiple client teams, the Project Director will be developing project-based relationships into long-term commitments, and drive new business pitches. The agency's business mix is varied and relies on a mix of in-house creative disciplines. Work includes communication strategies, experiential activations, exhibition programmes, events, corporate and experience brand identities, retail and service design, and digital content and activations (including web, mobile and social).   

As a client-facing expert in digital and content delivery, the Project Director will be the lynch-pin for the agency's integrated teams, owning the planning and execution of all digital projects across a range of key new and existing clients, with full responsibility for quality, commercial success and client satisfaction. 

You will have a proven track record in project delivery from inception to launch, with experience of running multiple projects simultaneously and of delivering big budget projects for major clients. Your thorough understanding of project management processes will ensure the efficient, cost-effective delivery of all work on time, to budget and at quality. Your excellent communication skills will keep clients and internal stakeholders informed and engaged, building excellent relationships and ensuring no surprises. You will be entirely comfortable leading the client engagement for digital projects, whether talking content strategy or technical quality assurance.   

You must be comfortable working hands-on as the lead project manager on key engagements, but have experience managing a team and be comfortable recruiting, training and overseeing other producers.   

You will have the opportunity to work on projects ranging from interactive installations and film production to social media and mobile applications. You must have a history in both film and digital production and an appetite to pursue cutting-edge work.   

Although primarily a delivery specialist, you must be a strategic thinker with an eye for business opportunities and a keen commercial understanding.   

Detailed responsibilities:   

  • To be the primary point of contact across the client teams 
  • To coordinate all digital projects, prioritising resource and advising the Business Directors on commercial viability of individual projects  
  • To assure quality on-time and on-budget delivery of digital projects  
  • To ensure seamless integration with the account teams and global offices  
  • To liaise closely with clients, ensuring full engagement throughout a project
  • To coordinate the response to client briefs, working with the Business Director, Strategist and Creative Lead to devise innovative and effective solutions that fit the brief
  • To ensure all solutions are fully scoped, ensuring they can be delivered within time and budget constraints, and that they are appropriately documented  
  • To ensure detailed project schedules and budgets are produced and accurately reflect cost and effort involved to ensure a positive return  
  • To ensure all projects are supported by thorough, accurate, clear and concise documentation throughout the project lifecycle    
  • To be hands-on and manage all aspects of a project at need; scoping, strategy, concept and creative development (incl. copy/content, design, audio, photography, film, and motion graphics), technical development, testing and deployment (incl. on-site attendance if required)  
  • To act as initial point of escalation for all projects  
  • To ensure third party & freelance resources are engaged through approved channels, with appropriate contracts and funding in place prior to work starting  
  • To refine and implement workflow processes, working with the Creative Services Director to strive for continuous improvement  
  • To build project teams, working with the Resource Manager & discipline leads  
  • To induct PMs, carrying out training in systems and processes  
  • To champion the agency's working practices & processes  
  • To manage junior & freelance team members, providing mentoring & coaching  
  • To motivate all members of project teams to be their best, and to enable excellence through a supportive environment

Experience and skills required:    

  • Extensive project management experience in a digital agency  
  • Hands-on experience delivering at least 3 of the following: 

a) Film productions (e.g. TVC, brand films, online spots - directly involved in production, not overseeing a production company) 

b) Interactive installations (e.g. touchscreens, gaming systems) 

c) Social media 

d) Motion graphics and animation 

e) Web platforms (e.g. CMS, intranets, eCommerce) 

f) Mobile interfaces and applications 

g) Interface design (e.g. kiosks, POS, HMI, etc)  

  • Experience in building a client relationship as a primary point of contact
  • Demonstrable understanding and delivery of commercial objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, able to convey concepts and issues to a technical team as well as to non-technical, business-focused stakeholders
  • Excellent leadership skills, motivating a multi-disciplinary team  
  • Experience managing other PMs, assuring work across all clients
  • In-depth understanding of digital production processes, user experience, technical development and quality management  
  • In-depth knowledge of current and emerging digital technologies, platforms and channels  
  • Instinctive understanding of the opportunities and constraints of common technologies (e.g. Flash, AJAX, HTML5, LAMP, AR, social media, etc)
  • Familiar with considerations for deployment across multiple platforms, e.g. touchscreens, mobile and online  
  • Useful to be familiar with considerations for including live feeds and dynamic data to create content on the fly  
  • Experience of delivering content within a live broadcast environment useful
  • Knowledge of or interest in content creation, curation and stewardship
  • Knowledge of usability and accessibility standards  
  • Knowledge of legal requirements around data management  
  • Knowledge of copyright and licensing issues
  • Ideally holds a recognised project management qualification
